History in a Pecan Shell

The town began life early in the 20th Century as a loosely formed community under the western-sounding name of Saddle Creek. In 1910 the town applied for a post office under the more prosaic name of Pear Valley.

The population is recorded as being 45 from the 1930s through the early 1960s when it suddenly dropped to a mere 20 in 1964. It has since regained some of that loss and in 1990, it was given as 37.
