History in a Pecan Shell

The town was first called Carlville or Streichville around 1882 for early settler Carl Streich. The community was made up of Germans, Austrians, and French settlers who compromised and gave the town a Spanish name when the post office came into being in 1894 (it closed in 1904).

In 1893 the town's first Lutheran church also served as a school. The school, built in 1920 was consolidated with Thrall's ISD in 1949.

Sandoval's population stayed at 25 from 1933 until 1948. It has since increased to 50 - the number given at the 1990 census.
