Seguin Texas Ranger Oaks The Ranger Oaks in SeguinTE photo

Across from the former post office on the SE corner of Gonzales and Travis Streets.

Under the shade of these trees, the "Gonzales Rangers" camped. Prior to the formation of the more famous Texas Rangers, these men patrolled the area between San Antonio and Gonzales. Their leader was Captain Matthew Caldwell (namesake of Caldwell County, Caldwell, Texas and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence).

Caldwell and other Gonzales Rangers lived here - a convenient half-way point on their patrol.

Shortly after settling in what was then called Walnut Creek - the town changed its name to Seguin
