Big Square, Texas, Castro County. (original) (raw)
History on a Pinhead
Settled in 1908 by the M. L. Stiles family of Iowa, the community got its name after the big square two-story houses that the Stiles family favored.
Other families joined the Stiles and by 1910 the community was granted a post office. It remained open through 1920.
The first schoolhouse was replaced by a brick building in 1920 and in turn, that was replaced in 1939. In 1945, Big Square's school was consolidated with those in Dimmitt and Spring Lake.
