History in a Pecan Shell
The site was part of the Morrison Ranch in the early 1880s. Later the land became part of the famous Slaughter Ranch. After railroad land was put up for sale around 1890 a post office was granted under the name of Wadsworth. In order to lure would-be buyers, the name was changed to Running Water in 1891.
The town was platted and the first school built. But when the much-anticipated railroad finally arrived, the community of Running Water was bypassed by 3 miles. In 1928 the towns businesses moved north and what had been the railroad designation of Edmonson�s Swith, became plain Edmonson, Texas. In 1935 Running Water�s post office relocated as well, changing its name two years after the move. By 1940 Running Water was completely abandoned while Edmonson had a population of 100. Forty years later the number of residents was recorded at 81. The state map reported 123 people living here in 2004.
