History on a Pinhead

Elbert began as a ranching supply community in the late years of the 19th century. Without a railroad, the town never grew to any degree. A post office opened in 1904.

The 1915 population was given as a mere 30 residents, although by 1940 it had reached 150. That number was in use for the next 50 years. After 1990 it declined to just 56 people the figure given for the 2000 census.
