Goodland, Texas, Bailey County. (original) (raw)
History in a Sunflower Kernel
Ranching brothers named McKeloey of Fort Worth sold their ranch about 1924 and the town came into being. The name was a land promoters dream, and indeed, there was a shift from ranching to agricultural crops like sunflowers, wheat, and sorghum. In 1940 the town had a population of fifty people and three stores. In 1980 Goodland had all the basic necessities for a small town - a post office, store, a grain elevator and a cotton gin.
