Concho County Courthouse
First permanent courthouse for Concho County. Built in 1886, replacing crude early structure. Architects were the brothers F.E. and Oscar Ruffini, who also planned and constructed first main building at the University of Texas. As F.E. Ruffini lived only long enough to draw plans for this courthouse, his brother completed it. Architecture is "French Second Empire". Use of rusticated stone -- which came from a quarry only a few miles away -- is unusual in this style.
Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1962

Concho County Courthouse Old Photo
My mother, 86, gave me a small photo of the Concho County, Texas, courthouse, probably taken shortly after it was built. There is a horse and buggy in front of the courthouse and several one-story buildings in the background, but no trees around the courthouse. The photographers name on the reverse is J. Y. Lowe, Miles Station, Texas.
The photo was sent to her mother in Georgia before she was married by a friend who went to Texas. - Virginia Eubanks, January 15, 2011

"The cornerstone on the southwest corner of the courthouse has O(scar) Ruffini's name instead of his brother Frederick, who drew the plans for the courthouse. Frederick died before the courthouse was completed." - Terry Jeanson

"The district courtroom in the center of the second floor spans the courthouse from the north to the south end." - Terry Jeanson
