Tom Jones on Tom Jones

I was born in Dumas, went to school in Lubbock, and have lived my adult life in Amarillo; so I guess you can say I am a native Panhandler. My wife, Marci, is also from the Panhandle, being raised in the small town of Hart. I became interested in photography when I was in college, working part time at Montgomery Ward selling cameras. My brother-in-law, Jay Wescott of Odessa, nurtured my interest in photography and encouraged me to learn new techniques.

When you live in the Panhandle, you learn to look for the stories in your pictures because we aren't often graced with the lush green landscapes, exotic wildflowers, or urban extravanganzas that other Texans get to see. But, oh yes, the pictures are there. Whether it is the migrating snow geese, the rusting farm equipment, the sunrises and sunsets (the best in Texas), or dusty old town squares, there is always something to photograph.

To support my photography habit, I work for a government contractor. Marci and I have two children. Jordan is 18, an Eagle Scout, and an accomplished scuba diver (not a talent you find a lot of use for in the Panhandle). Hannah is 15, working on her Girl Scout Gold Award, and also an accomplished scuba diver. The family is completed by three very spoiled dogs; Kippi, Kalli, and Kati.

So the next time you are in the Panhandle, be dazzled by the modern life, be captivated by the sunrises and sunsets, and be enthralled by the ghost towns - just make sure you take the time to look...you won't regret the visit.
