Gouldbusk, Texas. (original) (raw)

History in a Pecan Shell

Englishman/ Rancher William Gould-Busk is the towns namesake. In the 1880s, Gould-Busk bought the Starkweather ranch, In 1903 the land was divided into smaller farms from which the community sprang.

Growth ignored Gouldbusk although it did become a ginning center for local cotton farmers. In 1940 Gouldbusk reported 150 residents but like hundreds of smaller towns, after WWII the population declined as residents left in search of better paying jobs. By 1980 the population was down to 70 the same number used for the 2000 census.
