History in a Pecan Shell
Settled in 1875 by rancher S, B. Lamar who built a store and school. His son, James Lamar was the town's first postmaster and therefore got to fill out the application. He named it after his girlfriend, although it's not known if they married after such a flattering gesture.
Jean (the town) was moved to the Gulf, Texas and Western Railroad when it arrived in 1903. G. G. Cantrill built a store that also doubled as a town depot.
The 1940 census showed 300 people living in Jean.

Subject: Jean, Texas
Found the old bank, vault, and doors interesting. Anyone with a cutting torch could have gotten in in less than a minute if that was all there was to the safe. - Mike Price, July 2009
