Greenwood, Texas. (original) (raw)
History in a Pecan Shell
Named for two Baptist missionaries (The Reverends Green and Wood), the community dates from the 1890s when large tracts of grazing land were subdivided for sale as farms.
The aforementioned pastors organized the Greenwood Baptist Church in 1907. A more permanent structure was built in the mid 1920s. It was then the community took the name of the church.
About the same time the local schools (Stokes, Mc Clintic, and Prairie Lee) consolidated into the Greenwood ISD. The population estimate was given as 32 in the 2010 Texas official map.
