History in a Pecan Shell
The town was named for landowner Frank Judkins and was established as a station on the Texas and Pacific Railway in 1880. Early settlement included German farmers who transmigrated from East Texas.
Judkins had its own post office by 1905 .The drought of 1910 brought farming to an abrupt halt and the would-be farmers went looking for greener and wetter pastures.
There were only fifteen people left in 1920 - the year an oil boom materialized. Judkins "second chance" was lost when most of the new residents moved on to the brighter lights of Penwell - just four miles distant.
