The Huntsville Museum of Art has opened Watermedia 2000 as of April 9 in the Grisham Gallery. Watermedia 2000: 7th Biennial Exhibition of the Watercolor USA Honor Society will present some of the best work in aqueous media by Honor Society members. The exhibition includes 76 works by these artists, all of whom have won awards in previous juried exhibits.(left: Mary Ann Pope, River Run, 2000, waterccolor, 41 x 26 inches)
"Watermedia 2000 presents a wonderful overview of some of the major trends in the popular media of watercolor and acrylic," Peter Baldaia, Museum chief curator, said. "Viewers will be dazzled by this array of national talent and the variety of approaches used by the artists, from traditional still lifes and landscapes to the more abstract." This prestigious exhibit, which runs through June 18, is presented every other year in conjunction with the Society's national conference. Huntsville is hosting both the conference and the exhibition for the first time. Artists in Watermedia 2000 were invited to participate in this exhibit based on their talents and achievements. In conjunction with Watermedia 2000, the Museum is offering special programs. Internationally-known artist Marcia Leonard will demonstrate the unique qualities and techniques of the watercolor medium an Sun., May 7, from 2-4 pm There is no fee for this demonstration. Lastly, the public can also take part in a free decent-led tour of Watermedia 2000 on Sun., May 14, at 2 pm. The exhibition is sponsored in part by the Women's Guild of the Huntsville Museum of Art.
