"150 Years of American Painting: 1794 - 1944" features seventy three works by fifty-six artists from the Brigham Young University art collection. The exhibition includes works by renowned American artists such as Benjamin West, Frederick Church, Albert Bierstadt, J. Alden Weir, and Maynard Dixon. The collection includes landscapes, portraits, still life and history paintings, and is particularly strong in Hudson River School and American Impressionist works. The works will be arranged in roughly chronological order, affording visitors a historical review of American painting.
This exhibition of American paintings includes many of the finest works of art from the university collection. Collected over the last half century, they represent many significant American artists. The paintings document many of the major movements and styles that dominated the art scene in this country from the late eighteenth century until the second world war.
There is a complete and excellent **presentation**of the exhibition at the museum's website. Works are indexed chronologically and by artist or title. A 178-page hardbound catalog by Linda Mary Jones Gibbs, senior curator at the Museum of Art, accompanies the exhibition.
