Hello Laura,

Thanks for your response during a hectic season! There is no mention at all of Frank Murphy holding any copyright and I am attaching a scan of the copyright page to show that Hudson River Museum is the holder of the copyright on this essay. Thank you for sending info for his bio.

So please send email by replying back to "ALL" with your "permission granted" for the Resource Library to rekey and post an essay from a book you published in 1983, The Book of Nature: American Painters and the Natural Sublime. The essay is by Francis Murphy and can be viewed on pp 6 -71. (see below email)

Could you please confirm the Hudson River Museum's permission to reprint the articles as owner of the text, without any accompanying illustrations, through a reply to this email addressed to me and to info@

Thanks again --Stacey

If you are sure that Frank Murphy does not also hold copyright, then it is OK. As I mentioned before, at some point we will also have these up on Google Books.

From what I can tell online Frank Murphy is still associated with Smith College, though emeritus now. Here are links, which note two fairly recent projects.

Any information I would have here would be over 20 years out of date-that is why I checked online. I also never met him myself.

Thanks for reminding me. This fall has been especially hectic.
