UCLA Medical Center Medical Art Program Achieves $20,000 Through 1998 Benefit Event
Art and medicine came together Sept. 10, 1998 when the Fine Art Dealers Association (FADA) hosted a benefit reception for UCLA Medical Center's Medical Art Program to kick off the fourth annual Los Angeles Art Show. The event was held at UCLA's John Wooden Center and realized more than $20,000 for the Medical Art Program.
The evening featured a dynamic collection of more than 1,000 original paintings and sculpture valued at a over $50 million from 50 art galleries as well as cocktails, hers doeuvres and entertainment. All proceeds from the event supported the Medical Art Program (MAP) at UCLA Medical Center. The MAP was founded in 1990 to support the placement of artwork in public and patient care areas of UCLA Medical Plaza, which houses outpatient medical services, and UCLA's Tiverton House, a guest facility for patients and their families. The Medical Center incorporates art in its surroundings as an ongoing effort to enhance the well-being of patients, their families, visitors and staff.
Chairwoman for the event was artist and MAP member Ruthe London. Honorary Committee members for the benefit reception included Peter and Elaine Adams; Betsy Bloomingdale; Lisa Bloomingdale Bell; Laddie John Dill; Paul Dimond, British Counsel General Debra Hill; Harry and Marilyn Lewis; Mr. and Mrs. Art Linkletter; Dr. John Pearlman, M.D., F.A.C.P; Garry Shandling; Joan and Jack Quinn; Mimi Rogers and Gloria Stuart. Peter Adams is president of the California Art Club**.**
FADA's Los Angeles Art Show took place at UCLA's John Wooden Center for three days beginning Friday, Sept.ll, 1998 The show featured paintings and sculpture from the 18th century to contemporary European and American works from the Impressionist, Plein Air, Taos and Hudson River Schools. Regional paintings also were represented. Prices for exhibited works ranged from a few thousand dollars to more than $2 million. K. R. Martindale Show Management at (800) 656-9278 managed the art exhibition.
The Fine Art Dealers Association (FADA) was founded in 1990 as a non-profit membership organization of established art dealers from across the United States. Membership in FADA is by invitation only.
