National Academy Artists To Teach at Monterey Museum of Art

The Education Department at Monterey Museum of Art has arranged master landscape art classes during the Summer of 1999 with two members of the National Academy: Don Nice and Gregory Kondos.

Watercolors with Don Nice, August 9 -13, 1999

Don Nice studied and received his BFA from the University of Southern California and his MFA from Yale University. He taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York for 26 years and has led numerous workshops in watercolors. Nice has extensive teaching experience including the Santa Fe Institute of Fine Arts, the Huntington Museum of Art, and the School of Visual Arts. His work is in collections around the world including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney. He was given a special commission from the national Fine Arts Committee for the XIII Olympic Games in Lake Placid where he painted two 7' x 30' murals. Although he lives in Garrison on the Hudson River in New York, he was born and spent his youth in California. His first teaching position was at Monterey Peninsula College. Oils and Pastels with Gregory Kondos, August 16 - 20, 1999

Gregory Kondos was born in Massachusetts but has spent much of his life living and working in California. He received both his BA and MA from California State University in Sacramento. Kondos has also had extensive teaching experience. In 1962, he was appointed chair to the Sacramento City College Art Department, a position he retired from in 1982. He has been a guest instructor at the UC Berkeley, University of Florida, and the Artist-in-Residence for Yosemite National Park for several years. His work is shown in galleries throughout the United States and is represented In many museum collections, including the Monterey Museum of Art.
