ARGIOPE
Translation
Silver-Faced (argyros, ops)
ARGIOPE was a Naiad-nymph of the town of Eleusis (southern Greece). She was the mother by Poseidon of Kerkyon (Cercyon), a brutal Eleusinian king slain by the hero Theseus.
Argiope's name means "Silver-Faced" which suggests she was the nymph of a sparkling spring or brook.
