Mechteld van Gelre was born in 1325.2 She was the daughter of Reinoud II 'de Zwarte' Hertog van Gelre Graaf van Zutphen and Sophie Berthout Vrouwe van Mechelen.1 She married, firstly, Godfried von Sponheim Graaf van Loon en Chiny en Heer van Millen en Maaseik, son of Dietrich II von Sponheim Graaf van Loon en Chiny Heer van Heinsberg et Blankenburg and Kunegonde von der Mark, on 1 November 1336.1,2 She married, secondly, Johann Graf von Kleve, son of Dietrich VI Graf von Kleve and Margaret von Habsburg-Kyburg, in 1348.1,2 She married, thirdly, Jean II de Châtillon Comte de Blois et de Dunois, son of Louis I de Châtillon, Comte de Blois and Jeanne d'Avesnes, Dame de Beaumont, on 14 February 1372.1 She died on 21 September 1384.1,2
