Rt. Hon. Colonel Henry James Baillie was born in March 1803.2 He was the son of Colonel Hugh Duncan Baillie and Elizabeth Reynett.2 He married, firstly, Hon. Philippa Eliza Sydney Smythe, daughter of Percy Clinton Sydney Smythe, 6th Viscount Strangford and Ellen Burke, on 29 December 1840.2 He married, secondly, Clarissa Rush, daughter of George Rush, in 1857.2 He died on 7 November 1879 at age 76.3
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Inverness-shire.3 He held the office of Joint Secretary of the Board of Control in 1852.2 He lived at Red Castle, Inverness-shire, ScotlandG.3 He held the office of Under-Secretary of State for India between 1858 and 1859.2 He lived at Tarradale, Ross-shire, ScotlandG.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.)3

Percy Ellen Algernon Frederick William Sydney Smythe, 8th Viscount Strangford was born on 26 November 1825 at St. Petersburg, RussiaG.2 He was the son of Percy Clinton Sydney Smythe, 6th Viscount Strangford and Ellen Burke.2 He married Emily Anne Beaufort, daughter of Rear-Admiral Sir Francis Beaufort and Alicia Magdalena Wilson, on 6 February 1862.3 He died on 9 January 1869 at age 43, without issue.2
He gained the title of 3rd Baron Penhurst. He gained the title of 8th Viscount Strangford. He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.3 He was educated at Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.3

Alexander Duncan Cumming-Russell of Clochan was born on 30 November 1889.1 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Francis Shirley Russell of Aden and Philippa Augusta Maria Baillie.1 He married, firstly, Hon. Juliet Mary Evelyn Stanhope Gardner, daughter of Herbert Colstoun Gardner, 1st and last Baron Burghclere of Walden and Lady Winifred Anne Henrietta Christiana Herbert, on 12 June 1916.1 He and Hon. Juliet Mary Evelyn Stanhope Gardner were divorced in 1922 at ScotlandG for desertion.1,2 He married, secondly, Juliet Krwocher, daughter of Constantine Krwocher, on 30 December 1924.1 He died on 4 April 1951 at age 61.1
He was also known as Alexander Duncan Russell of Aden.1 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 30 April 1941.1

Herbert Colstoun Gardner, 1st and last Baron Burghclere of Walden1

Herbert Colstoun Gardner, 1st and last Baron Burghclere of Walden was born illegitimately on 9 June 1846.2 He was the son of Alan Legge Gardner, 3rd Baron Gardner and Julia Sarah Hayfield Fortescue.2 He married Lady Winifred Anne Henrietta Christiana Herbert, daughter of Henry Howard Molyneux Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon and Lady Evelyn Stanhope, on 4 March 1890 at St. Peter's Church, Brighton, Sussex, EnglandG.3 He died on 6 May 1921 at age 74, without male issue.4
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.2 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1872 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for North Essex between 1885 and 1895.2 He held the office of President of the Board of Agriculture between 1892 and 1895.2 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 25 August 1892.2 He was created 1st Baron Burghclere of Walden, Essex [U.K.] on 3 August 1895.2
On his death, his barony became extinct.4
