Colonel Henry David Makgill Crichton Maitland1

Colonel Henry David Makgill Crichton Maitland was born on 21 December 1904.2 He was the son of Commander Coventry Makgill Crichton Maitland and Alice Mary Birch Reynardson.1 He married, firstly, Barbara Ellen Armytage, daughter of Brig.-Gen. Sir George Ayscough Armytage, 7th Bt. and Aimée Milborne-Swinnerton-Pilkington, on 3 June 1930.1 He and Barbara Ellen Armytage were divorced in 1949.2 He married, secondly, Audrey Estelle Ljufling Hyde-Johnson, daughter of Henry John Hyde-Johnson, on 14 March 1949.2 He died on 14 October 1970 at age 65.1,3
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.2 He was awarded the Officer, Legion of Merit U.S.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1945.1
