Henry Borthwick of that Ilk, 16th of Crookston was born on 23 July 1868.1 He was the son of William Henry Borthwick, 15th of Crookston and Rebecca Cathcart.2 He married Melena Florence Pringle, daughter of Captain James Thomas Pringle, 11th of Torwoodlee, on 27 November 1902.2 He died on 27 May 1937 at age 68.1
He was educated at Madras College, Madras, IndiaG.2 He was educated at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, ScotlandG.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Fife and Forfar Yeomanry.2 He succeeded as the 22nd Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] on 8 October 1928, de jure.2
