Hon. Hew North Dalrymple was born on 27 April 1910.1 He was the son of John James Dalrymple, 12th Earl of Stair and Violet Evelyn Harford.1 He married, firstly, Mildred Helen Egerton, daughter of Hon. Thomas Henry Frederick Egerton and Lady Bertha Anson, on 20 June 1938.1 He married, secondly, Helen M. W. Phillips on 20 January 1983.1 He died on 24 May 2012 at age 102.2
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War, in Burma and North Africa, and was wounded twice.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 2nd Battalion, Black Watch (TA.)1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Ayrshire in 1955.1 He lived in 2003 at Castlehill, Ballantrae, Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland.1

John James Dalrymple, 12th Earl of Stair was born on 1 February 1879.1 He was the son of John Hew North Gustav Henry Hamilton Dalrymple, 11th Earl of Stair and Susan Harriet Grant-Suttie.2 He married Violet Evelyn Harford, daughter of Colonel Frederick Henry Harford and Florence Helen Isabella Parsons, on 20 October 1904.1 He died on 4 November 1961 at age 82.1
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Wigtownshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Wogtownshire.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1900 and 1902.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Wigtownshire between 1906 and 1914.1 He succeeded as the 13th Viscount of Stair [S., 1690] on 4 November 1906.2 He succeeded as the 13th Lord Glenluce and Stranraer [S., 1690] on 4 November 1906.2 He succeeded as the 12th Lord Newliston, Glenluce and Stranraer [S., 1703] on 4 November 1906.2 He succeeded as the 12th Earl of Stair [S., 1703] on 4 November 1906.2 He succeeded as the 12th Viscount Dalrymple [S., 1703] on 4 November 1906.2 He succeeded as the 13th Baronet Dalrymple, of Stair [N.S., 1664] on 4 November 1906.2 He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Dalrymple, of Cousland [N.S., 1698] on 4 November 1906.2 He succeeded as the 5th Baron Oxenfoord of Cousland, co. Midlothian [U.K., 1841] on 4 November 1906.2 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in dispatches and became a POW.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Scots Guards.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.1 He held the office of Lord High Commissioner of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland between 1927 and 1929.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Midlothian in 1931.1 He was Captain-General of the Royal Company of Archers.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Wigtownshire between 1935 and 1961.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1937.1

Charles Richard Woodroffe and Islay Mary Cecil Moreton Macdonald.1 She married, firstly, David Alan Coltman-Rogers, son of Guy Coltman-Rogers and Phyllis Mary Egerton, on 22 April 1952.1 She married, secondly, Colonel Charles Hamilton Mitchell, son of Major Charles Mitchell and Evelyn Hope Hamilton, on 20 July 1961.1 She married, thirdly, Alastair Hew Roderick Lyell, son of Angus Chambers Lyell, on 11 February 1967.1 She died on 10 January 2008 at age 81.2
From 22 April 1952, her married name became Coltman-Rogers. From 20 July 1961, her married name became Mitchell. From 11 February 1967, her married name became Lyell.
