Arthur Quintal1

Arthur Quintal was born in 1816 at Pitcairn IslandG.2 He is the son of Arthur Quintal and Catherine McCoy.2 He married Martha Quintal, daughter of Edward Quintal and Dinah Adams, on 22 October 1837 at Pitcairn IslandG.2 He died on 20 August 1902 at Norfolk IslandG.2
Arthur Quintal also went by the nick-name of Dowley.2 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island between 1845 and 1846.3 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1850.2 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1854.2 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Norfolk Island between 1862 and 1864.3 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Norfolk Island in 1885.2

Matthew McCoy1

Matthew McCoy was born in 1819 at Pitcairn IslandG.1 He was the son of Daniel McCoy and Sarah Quintal.2 He married Margaret Christian, daughter of Charles Christian and Sully (?), on 30 October 1836 at Pitcairn IslandG.2 He died on 31 January 1853 at Pitcairn IslandG.1
He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1843.2 He held the office of Chief Magistrate of Pitcairn Island in 1853.1 On the day the Virago left Pitcairn, he was attending to the Bounty cannon, which was fired on such occasions. A hot nail, embedded in the rafter that was used as a ramrod, ignited the powder, and the cannon exploded, blowing several men aside. Matthew's right arm was fearfully shattered and was amputated by the surgeon on the ship, but he died from his injuries a few days later.2
