Du Pre Alexander, 2nd Earl of Caledon was born on 14 December 1777.1 He was the son of James Alexander, 1st Earl of Caledon and Anne Craufurd.2 He married Lady Catherine Freeman Yorke, daughter of Philip Yorke, 3rd Earl of Hardwicke and Lady Elizabeth Scot Lindsay, on 16 October 1811 at St. James' Church, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1,3 He died on 8 April 1839 at age 61 at Caledon House, County Tyrone, IrelandG.3 His will was proven (by probate) on 22 September 1863, at under £14,000.3
He was educated between 1790 and 1796 at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.3 He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.3 He gained the rank of Colonel in the Tyrone Militia.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newtownards [Ireland] between January 1800 and December 1800.1 He held the office of Sheriff of County Armagh in 1801.3 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Caledon, of Caledon, co. Tyrone [I., 1790] on 22 March 1802.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Viscount Caledon, of Caledon, co. Tyrone [I., 1797] on 22 March 1802.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Caledon, of Caledon, co. Tyrone [I., 1800] on 22 March 1802.1 He held the office of Representative Peer [Ireland] in 1804.1 He held the office of Governor of the Cape of Good Hope between July 1806 and 1811, the first governor on the Cape's cession to UK (the Caledon River and District of Caledon there are named after him.)1 He was appointed Knight, Order of St. Patrick (K.P.) on 20 August 1821.3 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of County Tyrone between 1831 and 1839.1

Lady Catherine Freeman Yorke1

Lady Catherine Freeman Yorke was born on 14 April 1786.2 She was the daughter of Philip Yorke, 3rd Earl of Hardwicke and Lady Elizabeth Scot Lindsay.1 She was baptised at Marylebone, London, EnglandG.2 She married Du Pre Alexander, 2nd Earl of Caledon, son of James Alexander, 1st Earl of Caledon and Anne Craufurd, on 16 October 1811 at St. James' Church, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1,2 She died on 8 July 1863 at age 77 at Tittenhanger, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.2
From 16 October 1811, her married name became Alexander. After her marriage, Lady Catherine Freeman Yorke was styled as Countess of Caledon on 16 October 1811.
