Sir Robert Desmond Ropner1

Sir Robert Desmond Ropner was born on 2 July 1908.2 He was the son of William Ropner and Sarah Woolacott Cory.2 He married, firstly, Dorothy Beecroft Sheila Lacon, daughter of Sir Edmund Beecroft Francis Heathcote Lacon, 5th Bt. and Jane Gorham, on 26 January 1932.2 He and Dorothy Beecroft Sheila Lacon were divorced in 1946.2 He married, secondly, Sibyl Carter, daughter of Thomas O. Carter, on 8 December 1947.2 He died on 31 August 1977 at age 69.2
He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.2 He graduated from Clare College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He fought in the Second World War.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Artillery (Territorial Army.)2 He was chairman of the Tramp Shipping Sub-Committee of Shipping Advisory and Allocations Committee in 1947.2 He was director of Ropner Holdings, Sir R Ropner & Company, Ropner Insurance Brokers, Elton Stores, Airtech, BP CLyde Tanker, BP Tanker Company, Hozelock, Airvert, Croft Autodrome and Ropner Management.2 He was chairman of the General Council British Shipping between 1958 and 1959.2 He was appointed Knight in 1959.2 He was member of the Shipping Advisory Panel in 1962.2 He lived at Camp Hill, Bedale, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1
