Brig.-Gen. Sir Godfrey Vignoles Thomas, 9th Bt.1

Brig.-Gen. Sir Godfrey Vignoles Thomas, 9th Bt. was born on 27 March 1856.1 He was the son of Sir Godfrey John Thomas, 8th Bt. and Emily Chambers.2 He married Mary Frances Isabelle Oppenheim, daughter of Charles Augustus Oppenheim and Isabelle Frith, on 30 April 1887.1 He died on 17 February 1919 at age 62, on active service.1
He succeeded as the 9th Baronet Thomas, of Wenvoe, Glamorgan [E., 1694] on 13 July 1861.1 He fought in the Afghan War between 1878 and 1880.1 He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882.1 He fought in the Sudan Campaign in 1884.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1901, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He gained the rank of Colonel War 1899 in the Royal Artillery.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Essex.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1901.1 He was Brigadier-General of the 3rd Division Artillery between 1909 and 1911.1 Boer War.1 He was Brigadier-General of the 24th Division Artillery between 1914 and 1915.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1916.1 He was Brigadier-General of the No 2 Reserve Brigade FRA (Territorial Forces) between 1916 and 1917.1
