William Howe, 5th Viscount Howe was born on 10 August 1729.1 He was the son of Emanuel Scrope Howe, 2nd Viscount Howe and Mary Sophia Charlotte Kielmansegge.1 He married Frances Conolly, daughter of Rt. Hon. William Conolly and Lady Anne Wentworth, on 2 June 1765.1 He died on 12 July 1814 at age 84, without issue.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was commissioned in 1746, in the service of the Army.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1747.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1750.1 He gained the rank of Captain Lieutenant in 1749/50 in the 20th Foot.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1756.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Nottingham between 1758 and 1780.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1762.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1772.1 He fought in the Battle of Bunker's Hill, where he commanded the British troops.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Bath (K.B.) in 1776.1 He was Joint Commissioner of of the American Colonies in 1776.1 He fought in the Battle of Long Island on 22 August 1776.1 He fought in the Battle of New York in September 1776.1 He fought in the Battle of Germantown in October 1776.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1777.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1782.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General between 1782 and 1804 in the Ordnance.1 He was Colonel of the 19th light Dragoons between 1786 and 1814.1 He gained the rank of Geenral in 1793.1 He held the office of Governor of Berwick between 1795 and 1808.1 He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Howe [E., 1660] on 5 August 1799.1 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Howe [I., 1701] on 5 August 1799.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baron of Glenawly, co. Fermanagh [I., 1701] on 5 August 1799.1 He held the office of Governor of Plymouth between 1808 and 1814.1 On his death, all of his titles became extinct.1

Admiral Hon. Sir Thomas Pakenham was born in 1757.2 He was the son of Thomas Pakenham, 1st Baron Longford and Elizabeth Cuffe, 1st Countess of Longford.1 He married Louisa Anne Staples, daughter of Rt. Hon. John Staples and Harriet Conolly, on 24 June 1783.1 He was also reported to have been married on 24 June 1785.2 He died on 2 February 1836.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Longford between 1783 and 1790.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Kells between 1790 and 1797.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Longford between 1797 and 1800.2 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Red.2 He held the office of Master-General of the Ordnance [Ireland].2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)2
