John Fillis Carré Carter was born on 11 January 1882 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.1,2 He was the son of Major Charles Carré Carter and Ethel Frances Salter.3 He married Gwendolyn Marjorie Georges, daughter of Lt.-Col. William Payne Georges and Mary Georgina Wheeler, in 1915.1 He died on 4 July 1944 at age 62 at Stoneridge, Tavistock, Devon, England.1,2
He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Waziristan Campaign between 1901 and 1902.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was with the Indian Police (Burma) in 1905.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Order of the Crown of Italy.1 He was awarded the Order of St. Maurice and St. Lazarus of Italy.1 He was awarded the Order of the White Lion of Czechoslovakia.1 He was awarded the Legion d'Honneur.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Indian Army.1 He was with the Metropolitan Police between 1919 and 1940.1 He was Deputy Assistant Commissioner between 1922 and 1938.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1925.1 He was Assistant Commissioner between 1938 and 1940.1 He lived at Stoneridge, Tavistock, Devon, EnglandG.1
