Guinevere Grant was born on 8 September 1916.1 She was the daughter of Sir Alfred Hamilton Grant of Dalvey, 12th Bt. and Margaret Lucia Cochran.2 She married, firstly, Captain K. Lionel Hunter, son of A. C. Hunter, on 19 February 1944.1 She married, secondly, Colonel Sir John Dudley Robert Tarleton Tilney on 3 June 1954.2 She died on 4 April 1997 at age 80.2
She was educated at Westonbirt School, Gloucestershire, EnglandG.1 She was 2nd Officer in the Women's Royal Naval Service during the Second World War.1 From 19 February 1944, her married name became Hunter. She was Private Secretary to the Earl of Selborne between 1949 and 1954.1 From 3 June 1954, her married name became Tilney.2 She was President of the National Council Women of Great Britain between 1968 and 1970.2 She held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Lancashire between 1971 and 1974.1 She held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Merseyside between 1974 and 1976.2 She was Advisor to the Prime Minister between 1975 and 1983.2 She was appointed Dame Commander, Order of the British Empire (D.B.E.) in 1983.1
