Maj.-Gen. Sir John Emilius Laurie of Maxwelton, 6th Bt.1

Maj.-Gen. Sir John Emilius Laurie of Maxwelton, 6th Bt. was born on 12 August 1892.1 He was the son of Sir Wilfrid Emilius Laurie of Maxwelton, 5th Bt. and Marian Isabel Stirling.2 He married Evelyn Clare Gardner Richardson-Gardner, daughter of Lt.-Col. Lionel James Richardson-Gardner and Margarita Clare Richardson, on 2 November 1922.1 He died on 10 January 1983 at age 90.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was commissioned in 1912 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Seaforth Highlanders.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War, and he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916 and bar (1919.)1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Legion of Honour.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Dumfries-shire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dumfries-shire.1 He was commander of the 6th (Morayshire) Battalion and 2nd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders between 1934 and 1938.1 He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Bayley, of Bedford Square, Middlesex [U.K., 1834] on 15 December 1936.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was commander of the Tientsin Area between 1939 and 1940.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1940.1 He was commander of the 157th Infantry Brigade and 52nd (Lowland) Division between 1940 and 1942.1 He was commander of the Combined Operations Training Centre, Inverary between 1943 and 1945.1 He was Colonel of the Seaforth Highlanders between 1947 and 1957.1
