Colonel William Henry Gerard Leigh1

Colonel William Henry Gerard Leigh was born on 5 August 1915.2 He was the son of Lt.-Col. John Cecil Gerard Leigh and Helen Goudy.3 He married Nancy Jean Leslie, daughter of W/Cdr. Sir Norman Roderick Alexander David Leslie, 8th Bt. and Betty Elise Sewell, on 29 October 1946.4 He died on 19 September 2008 at age 93.3
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.2 He was educated at Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.2 He was commissioned in 1937 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Life Guards.2 He fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945, in the Middle East, Italy and North-East Europe.2 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Life Guards between 1953 and 1956.2 He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the Household Cavalry between 1956 and 1959.2 He was appointed Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1962.2 He held the office of Gentleman Usher to HM Queen Elizbaeth II between 1967 and 1985.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1981.3 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1983.3
