Mallowan was born on 6 May 1904 at Wandsworth, London, England.1 He was the son of Frederick Mallowan and Marguerite Duviver.1 He married, firstly, Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller, daughter of Frederick Alvah Miller and Clarisa Margaret Boehmer, in 1930.1 He married, secondly, Barbara Hastings Parker in 1977.1 He died on 19 August 1978 at age 74 at Wallingford, Oxfordshire, England.1,3
He was educated at Lancing College, Lancing, Sussex, England.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.)1 He was an archaeologist in 1925.1 He was appointed Fellow, Society of Antiquaries (F.S.A.) in 1933.2 He gained the rank of Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.1 He fought in the Second World War.1

She was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1962. From 1977, her married name became Mallowan.1
