Lt.-Col. Rt. Hon. Herbert Henry Spender Clay was born on 4 June 1875.3 He was the son of Joseph Spender Clay and Elizabeth Sydney Jane Garrett.4 He married Hon. Pauline Astor, daughter of William Waldorf Astor, 1st Viscount Astor and Mary Dahlgren Paul, on 29 October 1904.1 He died on 15 February 1937 at age 61 at Dormansland, Essex, England.2

Hon. Charlotte Maria Barrington was born on 29 December 1826 at Shrivenham, Berkshire, England.2 She was the daughter of William Keppel Barrington, 6th Viscount Barrington of Ardglass and Hon. Jane Elizabeth Liddell.3 She married Thomas George Lyon-Bowes, 12th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, son of Thomas George Lyon-Bowes, Lord Glamis and Charlotte Grimstead, on 30 April 1850 at Shrivenham, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 She died on 3 November 1854 at age 27 at Florence, Italy, without issue.2,1
After her marriage, Hon. Charlotte Maria Barrington was styled as Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne on 30 April 1850. From 30 April 1850, her married name became Lyon-Bowes.

Marianna Cheape was the daughter of John Cheape of Sauchie.1 She married, firstly, Sir Alexander Campbell of Ardkinglass, 4th Bt. before 1817.1 She married, secondly, Thomas Lyon-Bowes, 11th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, son of John Bowes, 9th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Mary Eleanor Bowes, on 8 December 1817.1 She died on 23 October 1849.1 She was buried on 26 October 1849.
Her married name became Campbell.1 From 8 December 1817, her married name became Lyon-Bowes. After her marriage, Marianna Cheape was styled as Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne on 3 July 1820.

Thomas Lyon, 8th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne was baptised on 6 July 1704.1 He was the son of John Lyon, 4th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne and Lady Elizabeth Stanhope.1 He married Jean Nicholson, daughter of James Nicholson and Anne Allan, on 20 July 1736 at Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham, EnglandG.1 He died on 18 January 1753 at age 48.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Forfarshire from 1734 to 1735.1 He succeeded as the 8th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne [S., 1677] on 4 January 1735.1 He succeeded as the 8th Lord Lyon and Glamis [S., 1606] on 4 January 1735.1 He succeeded as the 15th Lord Glamis [S., 1445] on 4 January 1735.1
