William Stanhope, 1st Earl of Harrington was born circa 1683.1 He was the son of John Stanhope and Dorothy Agard.1 He married Anne Griffith, daughter of Colonel Edward Griffith and Elizabeth Lawrence, circa 1718.1 He died on 8 December 1756.1
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1704 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Derby between 1715 and 1722.1 He was Envoy to Madrid from 1717 to 1718.1 He was Envoy to Turin between 1718 and 1720.1 He was Envoy to Madrid in 1720.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Spain between 1721 and 1727.1 He held the office of Ambassador to the Congress of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1727.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1727.1 He held the office of Vice-Chamberlain between 1727 and 1730.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.)
