A binding by Thomas Robert Macquoid for Robert Bloomfield’s ‘The Farmer’s Boy’ (original) (raw)
Cloth binding
Thomas Robert Macquoid
1857
Blue cloth binding with gilt overlays
8 x 5¼ inches
A charming, lyrical design, closely linked to its rural themes. The foliate gilt composition is echoed by the embossed patterns in ‘blind’. Macquoid’s capacity to suggest the energy of the natural world is effectively conveyed in this bouquet of leaves, tendrils and rosettes.
