Binding by Patten Wilson for ‘The Yellow Book,’ Volume 5 (original) (raw)
Cloth binding for ‘The Yellow Book,’ 5
1895
Yellow cloth with heavy blocking
8¼ x 6½ inches
This is the first cover design not created by Beardsley; though unattributed, it is probably by Patten Wilson. The image is one of leisure and educated recreation as a young woman enjoys her book, and the style is reminiscent of Beardsley’s, forming a continuity with previous designs. What it lacks, however, is Beardsley’s wit and sinuous line.
