Note the women in their finery here: "Bank-holiday demands a complete change of clothes, from the hat to the boots. Everything must be new," says Besant (144). Among the men in the picture are what appears to be an immigrant shop-assistant eyeing the boy in front of the greengrocer's shop; a sailor-lad from the docks; an accordion-player; and a policemen standing stiffly near the middle, and looking rather dignified and grand. Perhaps he has his eye on the crumpled-looking man on the right of the picture?
