Here Dickens lived during his short stay in Montreal in May, 1842. It is a misnomer, perhaps, to style Rasco's as "vanished," for though it is no longer [as of 1932] an hotel, the building, considerably altered on the ground floor, still stands. A letter dated "Rasco's Hotel" is included in Forster's "Life." In 1931 a tablet commemorating Dickens's visit to Montreal was placed on the building by the Montreal Branch (seeThe Dickensian, Autumn Number, 1931). ("Vanished Dickensland. Montreal as Dickens saw it, I. Rasco's Hotel.")
