The artust looks comfortable in his slightly rumpled brown jacket, with similarly rumpled handkerchief in the top pocket, and a splash of red at the collar. His neat hair and fine grey whiskers add dignity. Either looking at a canvas or deep in reverie, he has a steady, penetrating gaze.
