“Death of Tewdric” by John Evan Thomas 1810 – 1873 (original) (raw)
Death of Tewdric
John Evan Thomas 1810–1873
Bronze?
Y Gaer, Brecon
The Death of Tewdric shows the Welsh King at the moment both of his death and his triumph over the invading Saxons. His bard and harpist, based on the dramatic engraving by de Loutherburg, sings his praise while his daughter supports his dying body. John Evan Thomas was greatly helped with this sculpture and , one suspects, many more by his brother William Meredyth Thomas.
