The gallery label quotes a Morris & Co. catalogue:
The original version of this settle was made for Mr Morris's own house. Designed by his friend, the celebrated architect Mr Philip Webb, it is now available with plain oak panels or embossed leather paper.
Of course, elaborate gilded plasterwork, such as the magnificent putti and fruit trees on this example, can be specially commissioned at an extra cost. The seat is upholstered in deep crimson Morris & Co. velvet. And do not be concerned about comfort — you can order a matching back cushion for a small additional fee.
