Tracks in floor, Livraria Chardron, 144 Rua das Carmelitas, Porto, Portugal. These railroad-like tracks, most probably used for moving boxes of books about the shop, show us nineteenth-century technology in the midst of nineteenth-century gothic revival design — precisely the collision one encounters in Scott's gothic Midland Grand Hotel adjacent to St. Pancras Railway Station in London.
