[Profile Portrait of a Young woman in a Rondel] by W. J. Neatby (original) (raw)

[Profile Portrait of a Young Woman in a Rondel]. Watercolour, signed at mid-left with W. J. Neatby's initials. Date unknown, but part of a set of three, known to have been given as a wedding gift in 1919. Size: H 14 x W 10 cm, shown on the right in its frame, which is 4 cm in width.

With its surround of juicy pears and red grapes among leaves, this might easily be a design for a Doulton's charger, with young woman's profile as a centrepiece — again in Renaissance costume, but much more inviting and ornate than in the previous example. The hair is curly and trails at the side; the snood has a twirly pattern and is edged with small bows of ribbon.
