A Study for "The Duet" by Henry George Holiday (1839-1927) (original) (raw)
Study for The Duet. 1876. Red chalk on paper; 15 x 20¾ inches (38.5 x 53 cm).
This is a study in red chalk for his watercolour version of The Duet that was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1878. The drawing features portraits of Alexandra Kitchin, the daughter of Rev. G. Kitchin, and Winifrid Holiday, the daughter of the artist, with their violins. The two friends were accomplished violinists for their ages and likely frequently played duets together.
