Phags-pa Unicode Fonts (original) (raw)
'Phags-pa script was created in the 1260s as a unifying script for all of the languages within Kublai Khan's Mongolian Empire, including Mongolian, Chinese, Tibetan and Uighur. It fell out of use at the end of the Mongolian Yuan dynasty in 1368 but is still occasionally used in Tibet for decorative seals and inscriptions.
It was based on Tibetan script but is written in vertical columns from left to right. Unlike other Brahmi-derived scripts, 'Phags-pa uses normal spacing letters for vowels instead of diacritics.
