Repair-Technical Base is a cover term for the unit that controls the nuclear warheads within a division, brigade or regiment.

The unit is directly subordinated to the 12th Main Directorate of the Ministry of Defence (12th GUMO), and would be battalion sized, when attached to a regiment, and regiment sized when attached to a division.

The unit consists of highly specialized personnel, which would wear a large assortment of uniforms. As an example, a Repair-Technical Base stationed in East Germany, might even wear East German uniforms.

The duties of a Repair-Technical Base are:

• nuclear warhead security
• nuclear warhead storage, transport and handling
• nuclear warhead maintenance

Repair-Technical Bases were also attached to Army, Navy, Air Force and Air Defence nuclear-capable units.
