007: Garden State [Zach Braff 2004]
Many people have said so many good things about this movie and in some ways, I could see the point. I wasn't very moved by it, however. It was good, but I didn't connect to it. Maybe it requires a certain state of mind. Anyhow, it was very pleasant to see Zach Braff being serious (although a few smart comments did make their way), and Natalie Portman is always a pleasure. Also, I got a strange liking to Michael Weston. All in all a very individual, interesting and calm movie.
008: Star Wars Episode II [George Lucas 2002]
Pretty famous, no need for explanation ;)
009: Clone Wars (TV) [Genndy Tartakovsky 2003]
For fans, a pretty necessary tool to understand the full story of the three first episodes. For other people, not so much. XD
010: Star Wars Episode III [George Lucas 2005]
Same as Ep. II, except for one thing- last time I saw it, was in the movies in 2005. When I saw it now, I was sincerely surprised at the amazing quality of the CGI. True, most objective people say that CGI is the only strength of the movies, but I strongly disagree.
011: Memoirs of a Geisha [Rob Marshall 2005]
Now, I haven't read the book. But I have studied Japanese history, religion, literature and language, read countless books- both literature and academical material, my boyfriend is Japanese and I live in Japan. So, like most doctors feel about doctor's shows or movies, I just wasn't convinced at all. First of all, I have a problem with all movies, ALL movies that are set in country X, spoken in English/said country's heavy accent. now why on EARTH would these people speak English? let alone speak with a heavy accent? I cannot for the life of me understand how that would make any sense, ever. Do Americans really have that huge of a problem with subtitles? Second of all, for some reason I just feel very strange about Korean and Chinese actors playing Japanese, which makes a big difference to me.
But ofcourse, it was a very moving story, and quite true historically. So basically, I should probably read it, since I have problems with the production rather than content.
012: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events [Brad Silberling 2004]
I have never read Lemony Snicket's books either, but I feel I probably should read them after seing this- it was very cute, very imaginative, although I have no basis for comparison. I would say that the children's acting was very so-so, but the adults were amazing pretty much all of the time. It was a little pointless, but very cute and pretty. =P
