013: American Gangster [Ridley Scott 2007]
not really my cup of tea, this historical gangster drama, but it was good.
014: Jumper [Doug Liman 2008]
worst. movie. ever. don't see it. oof. i've never seen worse acting and plot development in my life.
015: The Mummy [Stephen Sommers 1999]
trying hard to be indiana jones, cannot pull it off. but entertaining at times.
016: Slither [James Gunn 2006]
when i saw it, i thought absolutely nothing of it. just another lame horror movie, i thought. but as it turns out, after reading up on it, it is actually supposed to be a humoristic take on the famous horror movie clichés, which turned around my original impression. i'd actually see it again, just to change my perspective.
017: Poseidon [Wolfgang Petersen 2006]
concidering that i saw it on a bus between Chiang Mai and Chiang Khong in Thailand, all dubbed in Thai, i can't say that i can fairly judge this movie. however, even without english, it seemed like a half-hearted B-movie.
018: Hostage [Florent Emilio Siri 2005]
a surprisingly catchy thriller, which i at first suspected to be some kind of Die Hard (as we walked in a little late). it turned out to be quite intense.
019: Apocalypto [Mel Gibson 2006]
when the movie started, i had seriously absolutely no idea what it was, who directed it, if it was old or new, if it was famous or a b-movie, i knew nothing. and i was very pleasantly surprised. or, i guess "pleasant" isn't exactly the right word to use here. it was extremely gory, as realistic as it gets. it was very hard and evil at times, and also very sad. ofcourse, it was also pompous and epic, just like mel gibson likes it. somehow, i really liked it (although it could be that i take an immediate liking to any movie that uses original language as opposed to heavily accented english).
020: Knocked Up [Judd Apatow 2007]
i think that hollywood movie history is slowly deteriorating and decomposing into very smelly crap in the last decade, because as far as i can see, this is as good as it gets (let me also point to Jumper, which i still cannot believe EVER made it out of someone's brain and onto a movie screen). however, if one just accepts that you're not gonna get more than this, it can be fairly entertaining. some good jokes, some interesting character developments. overall, i wouldn't pay to see it. but it's alright.
